a real one, is looking at them intently and examining them critically. If a robot interacts as some agreeable level, and doesn't arouse suspicion, people are less likely to even need to stare at it and wonder if it’s really a person, they won’t care. Sunglasses are a good idea, mainly ‘cos they hide one of our biggest marks of canniness! Out of the corner of our eye, we can easily be fooled into thinking a mannequin, scarecrow, or even a peculiar tree stump is a human. Once we look closer and focus our attention, we discriminate better. Deep fakes pass the test if the technology is good enough and as long as you aren’t in before hand, and also if the observer can be distracted somehow so they trust in the humanness of the image and aren’t motivated to look too deeply at the face. I’m sure I have seen figures that I believe were humans, but were really inanimate objects, only it wasn’t important enough at the time for me to look closely enough to check. The irony of the uncanny valley happens because the more realistic a synthetic human face is, the more intently we tend to gaze at it, until we see the flaws. By examining the face intently we have triggerEd the mind to experience an emotional attachment to the face, which is a habit when interacting with a human person. That makes the final realization a bit shocking. It’s relevant that a demo of an anthropomorphic robot is shown off for our discernment. I’ve never been fooled by a deep fake that was labeled as such, but I’m sure I have been by one passed off surreptitiously. We have very acute visual discernment of faces but we don’t use it all the time. For example, in the Toy Story films the anthropomorphic figures are charming, we can relate to them because we are at no point fooled into thinking they are real facially…they deliberately look like toy dolls. Polar Express is an example where the cha

neighbors’ dogs started howling and I went to check on them). Then I would wonder where everyone in my little part of NW Connecticut went? Did I miss an evacuation?
Ok then I would start to seriously try to find out what was going on. I would drive around CT and NY and be gobsmacked that there were no people. Now I am assuming that there were not 10 million dead bodies lying around. If there were, I might assume a disease or neurotoxin that I somehow missed out on. No bodies and I would probably freak out. Were the Left Behind people right? Were the aliens are watching us people right? Had everyone scurried off somewhere quietly and hidden?
If the Internet could still be accessed (I have a huge generator so I will have power but that doesn't help if Cable is out). I could roam around looking for a live Wi-Fi. I could check libraries for access. At this point I would still be thinking it was a local disturbance (the everyone evacuated theory). I would collect food on my search for information, but over time I was discover: everything just stopped on a certain date, not only was everyone in CT and NY missing, and in the Western Hemisphere, but in the whole world (apparently). I would find a Ham radio and try to find someone on it. It would be a long time with me searching using communications and traveling for me to conclude that I was likely alone. I would still not truly believe it but would believe that a large portion of humanity had disappeared.
While running around and trying to communicate, collecting food and supplies, I would be freeing those animals left behind, zoo animals, domestic animals, pets, they would be on their own to survive, but at least I could open the doors/gates. I would probably keep a little pack of dogs for companionship and protection. The most dangerous predator (man) is gone, but dogs are good to have to discourage four legged predators.
Now, a few weeks have gone by, I am still cruising around in my old diesel 4-wheel drive SUV (1994) because I know it can burn just about any fuel oil, and can go pretty much anywhere off road. I have my 12 ga shotgun, lots of ammo, a small .22 rifle, food, water, camping supplies, medical supplies, dog food, cat food, clothing, lots of hiking boots and socks, shovel, salt,
